Dear Motherhood,

For some, motherhood is a long-awaited miracle; for others, an unexpected surprise and for a few, it’s a plan fulfilled but no matter how the journey begins, it changes everything.

I didn’t know what to expect when you arrived. You came quietly at first in two pink lines, a fluttering heartbeat on a screen, a feeling that life as I knew it was shifting. You didn’t come with instructions or promises. You just came with love, fierce, consuming, unrelenting love.

In the beginning, I thought you were all about giving. Giving my body, my time, my sleep, my everything. You stretched me in ways I didn’t know I could stretch, physically, emotionally, spiritually. And in those early days, when nights blurred into mornings and coffee became a lifeline, I wondered if I’d ever feel like “me” again.

But that’s when you whispered your first lesson:

The person I was before you isn’t gone - she’s growing, too.

You taught me patience in moments I thought I had none. You showed me beauty in the ordinary a baby’s yawn, tiny hands wrapped around my finger, the sound of laughter echoing down a hallway that used to be silent. You turned chaos into something sacred, and exhaustion into something meaningful.

And just when I think I’ve learned all you have to teach, you surprise me again in the way my child says “I love you” without words, or when I find strength I didn’t know I had after a long, tear-filled day.

There are hard parts, of course. There are moments of doubt, guilt, and the endless tug-of-war between wanting to do it all and knowing I can’t. But even in those moments maybe especially in those moments you remind me that love doesn’t need to be perfect to be enough.

So here’s my love letter to you, Motherhood: Thank you for reshaping me. Thank you for the sleepless nights that taught me resilience, for the giggles that mended my tired heart, for the small hands that remind me daily that I am someone’s safe place.

You’ve given me the most beautiful kind of chaos, one filled with love that spills over, every single day.
